Our SOGeo group is coming to Medford Comic Con 2017!!
Where: Medford Branch Library and Rogue Community College Campus
When: 10 am – 11 am on Saturday, April 29, 2017
Meet up, say hi to some new cachers, compete in a little challenge, and have some fun!
“The Medford Comic Con is dedicated to promoting and fostering lifelong learning, connecting people, and celebrating family and community. Our mission is to encourage literacy and innovation through popular media, arts, literature, science & technology, fantasy and science fiction, game play & design in the form of workshops, programming, and exhibitions.” Comic Con Mission Statement from JCLS.
With their Mission Statement in mind, we at SOGeo wanted to join in and bring our love of the outdoors, connecting people and community with science, technology, and game play, and share it all with cachers new and experienced. We would like to have a small little Meet and Greet with everyone and catch up on what’s been going on in everyone’s caching lives, as well as let everyone know what’s on deck in the world of SOGeo. After the event, SocksAndAmanda will be setting up a booth to invite many more people to learn about Geocaching and all it has to offer them.
We will be setting up a booth with some general information, learning tools, and items that SocksAndAmanda have been putting together to help teach people about geocaching and see what exactly it is and how it works. We encourage any of you veteran cachers to stay around and help talk with some of the newer people and answer questions that they might have. We are also going to be putting together a little scavenger hunt that everyone can participate in on the grounds of Comic Con. Once finished, you can return the sheet to be entered into a drawing for some unactivated trackables!
We understand that this setting is somewhat of a unique place to be hosting a geocaching event, however, we are hoping to interact with more than 5,000+ people during the day and work to grow geocaching as a whole, as well as promote SOGeo and all that we want to become. We are very much looking forward to seeing many new faces and hope to see everyone there!
Also check out http://jcls.org/comiccon for more information on the events happening at Comic Con all day!

Fall CITO is upon us!
Come join us for a different style of CITO than we’ve done in the past. While we usually aim our attention on parks and the greenway, this time we wanted to focus on an area that gets plenty of traffic each day, whether it be by foot or by car, bicycle or skateboard. Downtown Medford is a wonderful place to walk around, see the sights, learn about the history of the area, or find a bite to eat, but rarely do we take the time to clean up this area and give back to the community. While this CITO might be a little out of the ordinary, or seem like a large task, we have highlighted a few key blocks of the downtown area that we want to focus on and make a difference.
We don’t expect to be picking up tons and tons of trash in our efforts, but we do hope that we can make a difference in the downtown area and spread the joy and love of geocaching to others who might see what we are doing. While we all love being out in nature and finding caches, urban caching is growing more and more each day. We want to take this CITO opportunity to help the downtown areas and keep our gameboard clean. We hope to see you come out and join us!
